In their third and last pre season game, just two weaks before the season opener of the new founded German Juniors Football League, the Panthers travelled to Stuttgart, to play the acting Youth Champions of Baden Wuerttemberg, the Stuttgart Scorpions. The Panthers remained unbeaten, but the Scorpions were, in difference to the first 2 games, a really criterion for the own strength. A comparison of power evolved, where both teams battled for victory, until the last second of the game. The Panther scored directly with their first drive, but in difference to the last games, they must be content with a field goal. The Scorpions was not impressed and countered in their first drive with a Touch Down, and it was the first time this season, that the Panthers wasn’t in front of a game. In the second quarter, the defenses of both teams ruled the game and forced the other team to punt, until the Panthers scored with an 80 yard pass, which brought the 10:6 lead for the Panthers at the break.
The Scorpions started with an impressive drive into the second half and took the lead, but the Panther countered with a variable change between running and passing game and took over the lead again. At the begin of the fourth quarter, just as the Scorpions tried to gain the lead again, the Panthers defense intercepted a pass, whereby their offense came on the field, which used the chance to extend the score to a 14:24 lead, but the Scorpions closed up again to 20:24, but failed with their try for a 2 point conversion. The Panthers controlled the clock now with running game and as they reached Stuttgarts endzone for another Touchdown, it looked as if the game was decided, but the brave fighting Scorpions never gave up, shortened the Panthers lead to 26:31, but failed again with their try for two points, as the clock run out.
Worth mentioning, the new Panthers starting Quarterback completed 10 of 12 passes. He caused no turn-over in all pre season games and was always dangerous with his runs, an opportunity, that the Panthers had to miss, especially in the last year. After the game, the coaches of both teams agreed, that this match was a real advertising for youth football in Germany, which gives hope, to see more games on a high level in the new founded GERMAN JUNIORS FOOTBALL LEAGUE. |
